Windows 7 Build 7048 Screenshots
Update: Build 7048 has been leaked for download: Download Build 7048
The blogosphere previously made a mistake in reporting the existence of a build 7048 of Microsoft’s Windows 7 before it was created (see: Build 7048 is a Fake). But now, reporters have been righted by the turning up of new screenshots of the 7048 build. The build was compiled on February 19, 2009 at 6:45 PM and it was earlier reported on PCBeta with a screenshot of a Microsoft Connect invitation that confirmed the 7048 number. The official build string is “7048.0.winmain.090219-184″ or “7048.winmain.090219-184″ or “7048.0.x86fre.winmain.090219-1845″ which is the highest yet reported. The Windows fanatic website, WinFuture.de, was the first to come up with screenshot proof of the existence of the build. View the screenshots with explanations below.

The 7048 build takes advantage of Aero Peek when using the Alt + Tab hotkey to navigate through open windows. It now isolates the selected window and makes the rest of the windows transparent.
Some cosmetic changes have been made to the “Computer” window.
The Control Panel is supporting a stylish new icon.
More of the same cosmetic changes made to the “Desktop Backgrounds” window.
More of the same cosmetic changes made to the “Network and Sharing Center” window.

Here’s a list of features changed from the previous builds and more 7048 screenshots.
……
I find the screenshots very strange indeed !
The one at the top of this page says it is “Windows 7 Ultimate” and the one below it says it is “Windows 7 Enterprise” !!!!
Which one is it ???
This makes me think that these pictures are not correct !!!
The one at the top is a screenshot from MyDigitalLife. It is not a match for the screenshots below.
Hi Kenneth,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Interesting point about the removal of the ‘Send Feedback’ link. RC is really about wrapping things up, so the removal would be justified since no more changes will be made to the user interface.
Andre Da Costa,
The build number has not broken off onto the release candidate branch quite yet though… which is why it is so odd.
Also, I have edited the article to show that the first image is from a different source than the rest.
Steven Sinofsky, Sr. VP at Microsoft, has stated publicly that recently we’ve seen people talk about “RC Builds” and the like. First, all builds since the beta are RC builds since by definition that is the next milestone.
Sinofsky was quoted saying that referencing the fact that people were talking about builds not even created yet (to his apparently limited knowledge).
And, yes… but we’re all looking for that special one deemed the RC that will be available to Technet and MSDN subscribers.
